My name is Nick Bishop.
I am a freelance journalist and Volunteer Press Officer for the dementia charity Hope for Home.
I love football, music, films, theatre, comedy and pubs. I have a slight obsession with the actress Natalie Portman and the comedian Bill Bailey. And I’m a lefty who disdains consumerism and spends way too much money buying DVDs from Amazon.
This blog began as a response to a series of lectures about journalism. With the arrival of Refugee Week, the blog became a platform to discuss immigration and asylum, and the rotten deal that migrants receive from the media.
Now, it’s Nick’s blog. In this space, I share my wonderous experiences with the world. You can read my musings, and debate / argue / hit the ‘back’ button as quick as you can.
Tip: If you need to increase the font size, just press the Control key and the + key together (Ctrl, +). If that doesn’t work, try your internet options in your browser.
I recently completed a postgraduate magazine journalism course at Cardiff University.
My freelance portfolio includes articles for The Guardian, The Bournemouth Echo, a French-language feature for La Presse de la Manche, and several articles for my course magazines at university, Alt:Cardiff and Substance.
In 2008, I graduated with a first in Modern History and Politics at Southampton University. Here, I focused on the history of immigration and asylum in the UK. I also spent a lot of time in pubs.
Hope you enjoy reading this blog.
